Cartmel & District Flower Club

Meeting Address:

Village Hall, Cartmel,  Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria  LA11 6QB - next to the Racecourse

About us:

Cartmel is a Medieval unspoilt village with its famous 12th Century Priory Church situated in a quiet valley in one of England's most outstanding areas of natural beauty. The Flower Club was involved in the Magna Carta Display held in September 2015 in the Priory. The village won a number of prestigious awards at the 2016 Cumbria in Bloom Competition, including the best village in Cumbria award. The village offers visitors many modern surprises in the form of fine quality attractions: Shops, Restaurants, places to stay and the award winning Racecourse. The Club meets on the third Monday of the month at 2pm in Cartmel Village Hall, next to the Racecourse. Exceptions are in December, when an Evening Gala is held at the Victoria Hall, Grange-over-Sands, and in January when Club Members enjoy a post-Christmas luncheon. The Club was founded in 1967 so we are celebrating our Golden Anniversary this year commencing in February with a Demonstration by Ros Harrison from Ulverston. Our outing for our Golden Celebration at The Netherwood Hotel, Grange-over-Sands, for Afternoon Tea, will be on the 17th July. Membership comes from both those with a love of flowers and plants and those extremely talented members who enter - and win - Local and National Competitions. The annual Subscription is £30. Visitors are welcome at £5. per Meeting. We have both National and Area Demonstrators throughout the year whose arrangements are raffled at the end of each Meeting. Membership is open to all and we pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming Club.

Golden Celebration 2017

Our February meeting was rather special as the club was celebrating it's Golden Anniversary. The Hall had been beautifully prepared for the occasion by committee members with decorated bottles filled with flowers and displayed on all the tables, which set the scene for our celebration. Our Chairman Margaret welcomed everyone, then proceeded to cut the cake with founder member Annie Dixon. The cake was enjoyed by all, helped down with a glass of fizz.Roz Harrison from Ulverston then delighted members with her Demonstration entitled 'Golden Moments'. To conclude the event members were all given a commemorative engraved pen together with one of the lovely table arrangements. (See Photographs below).
